Messy Harvest at Ravenmeol's Community Centre
Messy
Church celebrated Harvest on the 3rd October at Ravenmeol's Community
centre. Despite the weather being atrocious in the morning the skies
brightened by 4 o'clock which meant that we were able to enjoy both
indoor and out door activities. Each of the activities were linked
to the theme of Harvest..
The Activities
Bread
baking: Man cannot live by bread aloneā - food sustains our
bodies but we need God to sustain our soul.(Matthew 4 1-11). We enjoyed
playing and moulding bread dough into different shapes which we were
able to take home to bake.
Leaf and veg printing: God created the plants. How
rich and varied they are and how lucky we are to have them. (Genesis
1:11-13). This activity involved dipping different shaped vegetables
and leaves into paint and using them to print to make a picture.
Mud sculpting; How important is fertile soil? What
makes the best soil for growing plants? For growing in faith? (Matthew
13:1-23). Mud mud glorious mud! This was a firm favorite with the
boys and it didn't take long before they got stuck in and got creative.
Cress
Heads: As we sow our seeds what are we hoping for? (Matthew
13:1-23). It's amazing what you can do with a bit of old tight, some
soil, a few seeds and some decorative bits. Another opportunity to
get a bit messy and the end results are fabulous!
Pasta
Pictures: God gave the earth and everything on it to us.
It is our responsibility. What should we do? (Genesis 1:26-27). Pasta
is great for making pictures 3D and everyone enjoyed this activity.
Bible Table: Many different types of Bibles; traditional, comic strip, youth and story bible. This was a great opportunity to have a look at lots of different types of bibles and ask Reverend Harvey Nichols lots of questions.
Prayer
Tree: Pray saying thank you or asking God for something.
God always hears our prayers (Matthew 21 verses 18-22) This was a
time for quiet prayer and reflection, soothing for the body and mind.
Scavenger Hunt: If we search for God we will find Him (Matthew 7:8) The scavenger hunt was a series of tasks and questions aimed to make you think about where God is in our lives. The Donut bobbing was a giggle and tasty too!
The worship
After an hour of activities, we began our time of celebration
and worship where we sung and danced helped by the messy team. There
was a short talk about the power of faith and then we finished with
an action song and prayers. By which time we were ready for our hot
dog tea followed by delicious cakes!
It was lovely to have time to chat and build relationships again with those returning and to enjoy meeting the new people we had.
