We had 130 people at our first Messy Church! 40 volunteers and about
90 children, parents and grandparents come to the church. People came
from school contacts, brownies, people who just received the flyers
we distributed around the Park Road estate, and just a few church
members. This was just what we had hoped and prayed for; that Messy
Church would reach out to people who don't come to church and that
was the case!
People arrived and had a variety of crafts and games to choose from.
Painting was popular especially the paddling pool with paint in it
for children to walk in and onto rolls of wall paper to follow Jesus'
footsteps. The cup cake decorating was a great hit; some dads came
back to decorate extra cakes! There were 12 stations in all including
a chill out corner with Lego and toys.
After an hour families were invited through to another room for worship
led by Lizzi White and Andy Nichol who did great action songs which
all the children joined in and quite a few of the parents did as well
. We had a Messy Message from Revd Mike from St Luke's and Kath led
prayers including a prayer cake!
Whilst that was going on our volunteers transformed the main room into a dining room and worshippers came out to bowls of pasta, and a lovely section of cakes, we did birthdays and notices and then said goodbye after two hours.

As people left we asked them to put their names labels on a cool wall we had made to show if their thought Messy Church was brilliant, fun, or just OK! Feedback was overwhelmingly positive; brilliant and fun, (only two children said Ok and their parents contradicted them saying they had really enjoyed it). Most people told us they will be back in July!
